Studying Cybersecurity Online in Wisconsin
Wisconsin's online cybersecurity options split cleanly in two. At the graduate level, most of what you see is one degree with several campus names on it. The Master of Science in Cybersecurity is offered together by eight Universities of Wisconsin campuses, and the list includes La Crosse, Green Bay, River Falls, Oshkosh and Parkside.
The curriculum is the same wherever you enroll: 11 courses, 31 credits, two tracks and a project-based capstone. UW-Whitewater runs its own 30-credit degree through its business school.
Below that, three public technical colleges cover the associate level: Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay and Northcentral Technical College in Wausau.
There is no bachelor's or doctoral program based in Wisconsin on our list, so if you want a four-year degree you'll look at schools in other states. Northcentral's transfer guides do point toward bachelor's options at Lakeland University, UW-Stevens Point and Western Governors University.

How We Chose These Programs
We included every online cybersecurity degree we could verify on the school's own pages where the school is based in Wisconsin. Each program is compared on cost, how much of the degree is online, how current the curriculum looks, credential alignment and the school's track record.
Shared programs are listed once per campus because each school enrolls and awards the degree itself. Sponsored placements never change a program's position. The full scoring method is on our methodology page.

- In-state rate shown when the school publishes one
- Scored on the same seven factors as every list and ranked inside its degree level

Master's
University of Wisconsin-River Falls
Master of Science in Cybersecurity
School based in Wisconsin

Why it ranks #4: 65% of its transfer students earn a credential within eight years (tied for the highest among master's programs on this list) and it charges $850 per credit, but its school awards 1 master's degree a year in this field per IPEDS (tied for the fewest among master's programs on this list).
In-State FactsRiver Falls names its technical core outright: Advanced Cryptography, Digital Forensics, IT Security Risk Management, Network Security and Security Architecture. That makes it easy to judge the workload before you apply. You can begin with the start of any term, and a one-credit capstone preparation course comes before the final project. Textbooks cost extra, and the programming prerequisite rules out most career changers.

In-State FactsOshkosh gives the capstone weight outside the classroom, because a host organization evaluates your project and that evaluation counts for a significant share of your final grade. Registration for Spring 2027 opens November 9, 2026, in a semester-based calendar. Courses include Fundamentals of Cybersecurity, Introduction to Cryptography and Digital Forensics. There's no thesis option, so look elsewhere if you want research experience.

Why it ranks #2: 55% of its transfer students earn a credential within eight years and its school awards about 21 associate degrees a year in this field per IPEDS.

Choose Among the Shared Universities of Wisconsin Master's Campuses
Five of the six master's listings are the same degree, so the content won't decide it for you. UW-La Crosse, UW-Green Bay, UW-River Falls, UW-Oshkosh and UW-Parkside all teach 11 courses over 31 credits, with the tracks Secure Systems Design, and Digital Forensics and Security Management.
The differences are small and practical. Green Bay highlights success coaches through UW Online Collaboratives. Oshkosh says a host organization's evaluation counts for a significant share of the capstone grade. La Crosse publishes a two-year plan, and River Falls adds a one-credit capstone preparation course. Pick the campus whose diploma, support and start dates fit you, then check the courses on the shared program page.
Weigh Whitewater's Business-School Master's Against the Shared Degree
UW-Whitewater is the one master's that isn't part of the shared program. It sits in an AACSB-accredited business school, offers an emphasis in Cyber Resilience or Security Engineering, and says its curriculum aligns with the National Centers of Academic Excellence program run with the NSA. Classes are fully online with no campus visits, and you can start in spring, summer or fall.
The price is lower too. At 30 credits and $722 per credit for 2026-27, tuition comes to $21,660, compared with $26,350 for the shared degree. The listing on the school's page says tuition starts at that rate, and additional fees may apply, so ask for a full estimate. The shared degree names its prerequisites outright; confirm Whitewater's requirements on its page before you apply.
Read the Prerequisites Before You Apply to a Wisconsin Master's
The shared master's is built for people who already work near technology. Admission asks for a bachelor's degree with at least a 3.0 undergraduate GPA, a resume, a statement of personal intent, and coursework in introductory computer science that includes programming, plus calculus or statistics. The GRE and GMAT are not required.
That is a real barrier if your degree is in another field. A common route is to take the prerequisite courses at a community college first, then apply.
Plan the timing, because La Crosse describes the degree as typically a two-year program with most students taking one or two classes a term. If you're deciding between schools nationally, our list of online master's programs with no GRE shows other options with different entry requirements.
Start With a Wisconsin Technical College if You Want an Associate Degree
The three technical colleges suit different situations. Fox Valley offers 62 credits at Appleton or online, with start dates in spring, summer and fall 2027. Its program page estimates about $11,000 in tuition and fees plus $210 for textbooks. Northeast Wisconsin uses eight-week sessions and says 83% of graduates are employed in field with a $55,500 three-year median wage, per its own survey.
Northcentral lists $10,587 in tuition and fees and $672 for books and supplies, and 9 of its 61 credits come from the Information Security Certificate. For other two-year choices, see our online associate degrees in cybersecurity.
