How We Chose These Programs
A program makes this list only if it is fully online or an online degree-completion program, has no scheduled campus attendance, and also does at least one of three things: it teaches asynchronously, it runs terms of eight weeks or shorter, or it states a part-time pace.
Then we rank within each degree level on the same published scoring used across the site, which weighs cost, graduate earnings, completion and the online experience. Every price, term length and fee comes from the school's own pages. You can read the full approach on the methodology page.
- Fully online or online degree completion, with no scheduled campus attendance
- Asynchronous classes, terms of 8 weeks or shorter, or a stated part-time option
- Ranked on the shared methodology
Scores combine seven published factors. The methodology page shows each weight and rubric.

Bachelor's
Champlain College
BS in Computer Forensics & Digital Investigations
School based in Vermont
- Fully Online

Why it ranks #1: it charges $342 per credit (the lowest among bachelor's programs on this list) and its graduates in this field earn a median $112,282 (higher than 4 of 5 other bachelor's programs on this list).
FlexibilityAssociate-degree holders, veterans and alumni pay $297 a credit here instead of $342, and service members pay $250. Seven-week terms let you take one, two or three courses, so you can scale down when work gets heavy. Credit for prior learning and work experience can shorten the 120 credits. The Digital Forensic Practicum is the applied finish. A one-time $150 graduation fee applies.

Matching Term Length to Your Work Schedule
Eight weeks is the usual length for a working-adult term, and it cuts both ways. A short term means you can drop to one course when a project eats your evenings, then pick back up two months later. It also means a missed week is a large share of the course.
Schools handle this differently. Champlain College runs 7-week terms alongside 15-week semesters, and its bachelor's students take one to three courses per term. At two courses per term, Champlain lists about 3 years and 6 months for the cybersecurity bachelor's. Franklin University mixes 6-week and 12-week courses with eight starts a year, so a hard quarter at work costs you a start date, not a semester.
If your hours are unpredictable, look at the shortest and the most flexible formats. Eastern Iowa Community College District offers standard or accelerated semesters of 4 to 16 weeks, and its associate degree ends with an internship or a personalized project.
Immaculata's associate degree takes one course at a time in 7-week sessions and lists less than two years. That one-at-a-time rhythm is easier to protect than a full course load.
Asynchronous is the other half of this. Among the 247 programs we track, just six say plainly that classes are asynchronous, and WGU and Excelsior are among them. Georgia Tech's master's mixes asynchronous classes with optional live sessions and starts only in August and January. Confirm the live or asynchronous format with the admissions office before you apply.
Paying for a Degree While You Work
Working adults often pay out of pocket or through an employer, so the sticker price matters less than the total with fees. Among programs on this list, Eastern Iowa charges $230 per credit, and its online fee adds $3 per credit hour. Community College of Baltimore County charges $247 per credit hour for out-of-state online students, and Immaculata charges $250 per credit.
At the bachelor's and master's level, price depends heavily on how the school bills. WGU charges $4,425 per six-month term whatever number of courses you finish, which rewards speed and punishes a slow semester. Georgia Tech's master's totals $12,384 for 32 credits at the U.S. rate of $387, and it adds an online fee of $531 each semester at four or more credit hours.
Fees are where budgets slip. Excelsior's bachelor's lists $510 per credit hour, then a $40 per credit hour Academic Services Fee and a $28 per course credit Technology Fee. Its master's folds services into a $715 all-inclusive rate but leaves out course materials. Hallmark's $595 per credit hour excludes a $100 lab fee and a $125 technology fee each term.
Military and veteran rates can cut a bill. Champlain charges $250 per credit for service members at the bachelor's level and $500 instead of $608 at the master's level. The military list goes further on that.
Stacking Credits So You Don't Start From Zero
Most adults who return to school already hold credits, a certification or years of work. Check how each school treats them before you compare tuition, because 30 saved credits can matter more than a lower rate.
Franklin University accepts up to 94 transfer credits into its bachelor's program and up to 45 into its associate degree, though the capstone cannot be transferred in. Champlain and Ashford both list credit for prior learning, and Champlain says that includes work experience, training and military training. California Institute of Arts and Technology lists prior learning credit for its associate degree.
Ladders inside one school are a safer path if you are unsure. SNHU, Wilmington, Franklin and American Public University System each offer both an associate and a bachelor's in cybersecurity on this list, and Immaculata says its associate credits move into its B.S. in Cybersecurity.
Wilmington's associate degree and bachelor's sit on the same eight-week schedule. You can finish the first rung, see how you handle work and school together, and then decide.
For the master's level, Champlain's program lists 30 to 36 credits and about 10 months at two courses per term. WGU's master's reports that 63% of graduates finish within 18 months. Those figures assume you keep up the pace.
Picking Certifications That Fit the Coursework
Employers hiring for security roles often ask for an industry exam on top of the degree, and the schools that name specific exams save you study time later. Security+ is CompTIA's entry-level security exam. CISSP is the Certified Information Systems Security Professional exam, and CEH is the Certified Ethical Hacker exam.
WGU's bachelor's names Security+ and includes 16 industry-recognized certifications at no extra tuition. Excelsior's bachelor's prepares you for Security+, SSCP, Network+ and CEH. Wilmington's bachelor's names Security+ and CISSP, and its associate degree names Security+ and CEH. Community College of Baltimore County and California Institute of Arts and Technology each name Security+ for their associate degrees.
At the master's level, Hallmark includes CISSP certification training and the certification itself in tuition, which is unusual. WGU's master's names Security+, CISSP and CySA+, CompTIA's Cybersecurity Analyst exam. Bring your own questions: ask what is included, which exams the courses actually cover, and whether the voucher or exam fee is yours to pay. The certification list compares those answers across schools.
