Method
How We Chose These Programs
We start with every cybersecurity, information assurance and digital forensics program we could verify as delivered online, then keep the ones that score highest on our published methodology within each degree level. Delivery, price, terms, labs and credentials come from each school's own pages, checked in October 2026. You can read the full method on the methodology page.
- Delivery is fully online
- No campus visits, residencies or on-campus lab weeks
- Proctored exams and arranged placements noted for each program
Scores combine seven published factors. The methodology page shows each weight and rubric.

Bachelor's
Champlain College
BS in Computer Forensics & Digital Investigations
School based in Vermont
- Fully Online
- Private nonprofit
Why it ranks #1: its graduates in this field earn a median $112,282 (higher than 5 of 6 other bachelor's programs on this list) and it charges $342 per credit (lower than 7 of 8 other bachelor's programs on this list).
Fully online deliveryEvidence handling is treated as a trade here. Digital Forensic Analysis and Criminal Investigation lead into the Digital Forensic Practicum, and none of it requires a campus visit. Champlain has held an NSA and DHS cyber defense education designation since 2006. Choose it to work cases from home. Skip it if penetration testing is your goal, since the coursework examines systems after an incident rather than attacking them.

Why it ranks #2: its school awards about 2,218 bachelor's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS (the most among bachelor's programs on this list) and its graduates in this field earn a median $129,303 (the highest among bachelor's programs on this list).
Fully online deliveryFully online at WGU means no login times at all. Assessments replace weekly assignments, so the Cybersecurity and Information Assurance Capstone arrives whenever you've cleared the courses before it. Entry exams like CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+ come with the coursework, which suits a help desk worker building a first security credential. Look elsewhere if you need a professor's deadlines to stay on track.

Why it ranks #3: its graduates in this field earn a median $102,099 (higher than 4 of 6 other bachelor's programs on this list) and 55.5% of its transfer students earn a credential within eight years (higher than 5 of 9 other bachelor's programs on this list).
Fully online deliveryOnline here still ends with teamwork. The 4-credit Cybersecurity Capstone is a small-group project, so expect to coordinate schedules with classmates after starting with Cybersecurity Fundamentals and virtual-environment exercises. Pick it if you like building something with other people. At $398 a credit across 124 credits, it's priced like a private university, which makes the credits you transfer in matter a great deal.

Fully online deliveryFew online bachelor's programs point toward Linux+, and Wilmington does, alongside A+, Network+ and Security+. Working practitioners lead the technical labs, so your questions go to people in the field. Certificates and a Digital Forensics concentration let you narrow the focus. At $439 a credit it's a mid-priced private option, with a new class starting every eight weeks.

Fully online deliveryLook at the credential list before the course list. Norwich ties the coursework to Hack The Box exams, from the entry-level Certified Junior Cybersecurity Associate up to Wi-Fi pentesting (CWPE) and web exploitation (CWEE). That suits self-directed learners who'd rather prove skills in a lab than on a multiple-choice test. If your employer insists on Security+ or CISSP, ask how this path maps to it first.

Bachelor's
University of Arkansas Grantham
Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity
School based in Arkansas

Why it ranks #6: it charges $305 per credit (the lowest among bachelor's programs on this list), but its school awards about 11 bachelor's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS (the fewest among bachelor's programs on this list).
Fully online deliveryThis is a University of Arkansas System school, with tuition for the 120 credits totaling $36,600 and a typical finish of 38 months. That predictability helps adults budgeting a degree around a fixed income. Courses start monthly, and Linux Administration, Cryptography and Cloud Computing Security make up the technical core. Why it ranks #8: its school awards about 538 bachelor's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS (more than 7 of 9 other bachelor's programs on this list), but 42.5% of its transfer students earn a credential within eight years (lower than 8 of 9 other bachelor's programs on this list).
Fully online deliverySNHU serves most of its students online, so a remote cybersecurity degree here is the main product rather than a side offering. Labs and real-world scenarios put you in front of AI-enabled security tools at $354 per credit, and the Generative AI concentration is there if that interests you. It fits a first-time college student who wants a large, established online school. Employers asking for Security+ will need separate prep.

Fully online deliveryTwo tracks exist: General, or Cyber Operations for defense and response work. Both run asynchronously online with no on-site sessions, and the coursework supports exams such as SSCP, CISP and ESCP alongside Security+ and CEH. Large Scale Cybercrime and Terrorism is among the course titles. Middle States accredits the school. Tuition is $510 per credit hour plus fees, so transfer credit is your main cost lever.

Why it ranks #3: it charges $355 per credit (the lowest among master's programs on this list) and its school awards about 260 master's degrees a year in this field per IPEDS (more than 6 of 9 other master's programs on this list).
Fully online deliveryEvery student takes the same sequence, because there are no concentrations to choose, and it maps to the CISSP domains rather than a niche. Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning and Operations Security are the courses most likely to match what a security team does day to day. The school says the program is for people already working in IT, and the CAE designation is school-reported.

Fully online deliveryCyber Risk Management and Secure Software Design give this degree more range than the usual forensics-and-defense mix, and the Advanced Cyber Defense Seminar pulls it together before the CYS-6339 capstone. Because CISSP is bundled and a separate course targets the EC-Council forensic investigator exam, you could leave with two certification attempts. The trade-off is national ACCSC accreditation, which some employers and graduate schools treat differently.

Fully online deliveryThe core is about watching a network and responding: Network Security Monitoring and Intrusion Detection feeds into Incident Response, with Malware and Threat Analysis behind it. That sequence suits a sysadmin or developer who wants to join a security operations team. Applicants need a computer science, computer engineering or software engineering degree, or a closely related one, and a 3.0 GPA. Classes start in fall, spring and summer.

Why it ranks #2: it charges $107 per credit (the lowest among associate programs on this list) and 55% of its undergraduates study fully online (a higher share than 8 of 9 other associate programs on this list).
Fully online deliveryThink of this as the defender's degree for people who want to learn every layer. Between Network Security, Computer Forensics, operating system security and Ethical Hacking and Penetration Testing, you touch attack, defense and investigation.

Fully online deliveryAnyone who wants the federal-hiring signal of an NSA-designated Cyber Defense school without leaving Georgia should consider this program. Ethical hacking, forensics, network defense and operating system security make up the technical core. Fully online deliveryLearners who retain more by doing than by reading belong here. The CyberBit Cyber Range puts you in a simulated attack and asks you to respond, and the same coursework prepares you for Security+, Network+ and Linux administration. Why it ranks #6: 50.5% of its transfer students earn a credential within eight years (higher than 5 of 9 other associate programs on this list), but its school awards 1 associate degree a year in this field per IPEDS (the fewest among associate programs on this list).
Fully online deliveryThis is the degree for a future systems administrator who wants security built into the job. Of its 60 credits, 45 are technical and 15 are math, communication and humanities, and the topics include cloud security, device hardening, firewalls and intrusion prevention. What Fully Online Really Covers
Online usually means the lectures and assignments are on a screen. The trickier parts are labs, proctored exams and capstones. Most schools here run labs in the browser, through virtual machines you log in to, so no campus visit is needed.
Check the fine print before you enroll. Central Georgia Technical College states that an online course may require on-campus visits for exams or hands-on labs, and may require proctored assignments. Excelsior University offers a hybrid option with a three-hour in-person session every other week in St. Petersburg, Florida, but its fully online option has no on-site sessions.
If you live far from a school's campus, ask admissions in writing whether any course, exam or lab needs a physical location.
Pick the Lab Style That Fits Your Learning
A cybersecurity degree is mostly built on doing things, so the lab setup deserves as much attention as the price. Each school here has a different answer.
Norwich University partners with Hack The Box, a hands-on platform with certifications aligned to Department of Defense job roles. Southern Arkansas University Tech uses a CyberBit Cyber Range where students simulate real attacks.
California Institute of Arts & Technology sends at-home lab kits, which suits you if you learn better with real hardware on the desk. University of Maryland Global Campus adds a Virtual Security Lab and a competition team.
The virtual versions trade physical equipment for flexibility, so ask each school for a lab demo.
Async, Sync, and Term Length
Fully online doesn't mean self-paced. Format and term length decide how much of your week the program claims.
Western Governors University is asynchronous and starts a new term every month (12 starts a year). It reports that 60% of graduates finish within 29 months. Excelsior University is also asynchronous, with 8-week terms. Georgia Tech mixes asynchronous and synchronous work and enrolls only twice a year.
Short terms move fast. Champlain College uses 7-week terms, Franklin University 6-week terms, and California Institute of Arts & Technology 5-week terms. That's a quick start if you want momentum, and a heavy load next to a full-time job.

Certifications Bundled Into Online Degrees
Since you're not sitting in a classroom, a certification can be the proof employers recognize. Several programs here build toward one.
Western Governors University says it includes 16 industry-recognized certifications at no extra tuition. Hallmark University includes the CISSP certification in its tuition, and University of the Cumberlands aligns its coursework with the CISSP body of knowledge.
Excelsior University lists Security+, SSCP and CEH, while University of Maryland Global Campus lists Security+ and CySA+.
The issuing bodies set their own exam and experience rules, so read them on the official page, such as the ISC2 CISSP page.
