Studying Cybersecurity Online in Maryland
Maryland has 18 online cybersecurity programs at 8 schools: 6 bachelor's, 9 master's and 3 associate degrees. The median in-state rate across them is $555 per credit, and the lowest is $246. Residency matters more here than in most states. University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), the University of Baltimore and the community colleges all charge residents far less than out-of-state students.
Method
How We Chose These Programs
We started with every cybersecurity, digital forensics and information assurance degree that a Maryland school offers online, then checked each one against the school's own pages. Programs are scored on cost, graduate earnings, completion, how much of the degree runs online, and the credentials and hands-on depth it offers.
For this page we used the rate a Maryland resident pays when a school publishes one. Read the full methodology for how each measure works. You can also compare against the national list.

Check Your Residency Before You Compare Tuition
Maryland schools price by where you live, and the gap is large. At UMGC, a bachelor's costs $337 per credit for residents, $499 for out-of-state students and $250 for military students. The University of Baltimore's bachelor's runs $357 for residents and $1,139 for everyone else, and its master's runs $865 against $1,254.
UMGC's Cyber Operations master's is $555 for residents and $659 for others, while its other master's degrees stay at $694 for all online students. Stevenson, Capitol and SANS charge one rate for everyone. If you live in Maryland, the public options are cheapest. If you don't, a flat-rate school can beat a public one. Ask each school's bursar which rate your address qualifies for before you build a budget.
Choose Between Technical, Policy and Forensics Tracks
Maryland's list splits into three kinds of work, and picking the wrong kind costs you a year. Technical tracks, like UMGC's Cybersecurity Technology and Cyber Operations degrees, train you to defend and test systems. Policy tracks, like UMGC's Cybersecurity Management and Policy degrees, train you to write security rules and report on risk.
Forensics tracks, at Stevenson, the University of Baltimore, CCBC and UMGC, train you to collect and examine digital evidence. Johns Hopkins lets you pick a focus before you start, from Analysis and Networks to Space Cyber and Assured Autonomy. Read the course list for the tools and capstone, then match it to a job posting you want. A technician and an analyst who writes policy need different degrees.
Look for Federal Designations and Certification Prep
Maryland employers include federal agencies and contractors, so designations carry weight here. CCBC's cybersecurity associate degree is NSA-recognized, its digital forensics associate degree holds a Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center designation, and Stevenson's master's curriculum is NSA-validated. Anne Arundel Community College holds ABET accreditation. Certification prep varies.
CCBC points to Security+, Linux+ and CCNA, Anne Arundel names Network+, Security+, CCNA and the Magnet Certified Forensic Examiner, and SANS aligns courses to GIAC exams such as GSEC and GCIH. Ask admissions which courses map to which test. A designation helps with government work, but it should not outweigh price and labs.
Plan Your Transfer Credits and Financial Aid
Transfer credit is where Maryland students save the most. UMGC's bachelor's degrees take up to 90 of the 120 credits, so a community college graduate pays the upper-division rate on the final 30. UMGC's master's degrees accept 12 transferred credits, which leaves 18 of 30 to pay for. Stevenson's master's accepts up to 15 of its 36 credits.
The University of Baltimore's bachelor's is built for students who already hold an associate degree. Complete the FAFSA early, since federal aid applies to most programs here. Ask your employer about tuition benefits, and ask UMGC and Capitol about military rates if you serve. Request a written transfer evaluation before you pay a deposit.
