Studying Cybersecurity Online in Texas

Texas has more online cybersecurity master's programs than any other level on this list, and they come from very different schools. Two are public, Sam Houston State and the two-year colleges, while University of Dallas and Our Lady of the Lake are private nonprofits and Strayer is a for-profit.

Hallmark is a career-focused university in San Antonio. Only one bachelor's qualifies, so Texas bachelor's seekers should also compare the national best online cybersecurity degrees list.

How We Chose These Programs

A program appears here when the school is based in Texas and the degree is delivered fully online, with the school's own pages confirming it. We read each program's price, length, courses and admissions from those pages and from federal college data.

Eight programs qualify, so all eight are included. Within each degree level, the order comes from our shared scoring of cost, graduate earnings, completion and online experience. The methodology page explains each measure and where the data comes from.

  • School based in Texas, program delivered online
  • In-state rate shown when the school publishes one
  • Scored on the same seven factors as every list and ranked inside its degree level

Scores combine seven published factors. The methodology page shows each weight and rubric.

    Master's

    Hallmark University

    Master of Science in Cybersecurity

    School based in Texas

    • Fully Online
    • Private nonprofit

Why it ranks #1: 100% of its graduate students study fully online (the highest share among master's programs on this list), it charges $595 per credit (the lowest among master's programs on this list), and 60% of its transfer students earn a credential within eight years (higher than 3 of 4 other master's programs on this list).

    In-State Facts

Hallmark is a San Antonio school, and its own bachelor's graduates with a C average get into this master's with no extra requirements. Everyone else needs a technology degree plus two years of work, or three years without one. The coursework mixes Secure Software Design with Cyber Risk Management, so it suits Texans who want policy and engineering in one year. Expect a fixed, fast pace.

    In-State Facts

Sam Houston lets you choose between a Cybersecurity track and an Artificial Intelligence track, which is unusual for a 30-credit online master's. Core courses cover Database Security and Business Continuity Management, and the non-thesis path ends in a directed master's project. Texas residents pay $320.25 per credit before fees, so it fits budget-minded Texans. It starts three times a year, not monthly.

    Master's

    University of Dallas

    In-State Facts

Dallas builds its degree in a College of Business accredited by AACSB, so Governance, Risk and Compliance and Strategic Cybersecurity Planning for the Enterprise matter as much as Cryptology and Data Protection. That makes it a fit for security leads who brief executives. Any bachelor's field is accepted. Thirty credits at $1,300 come to $39,000, so plan for a private-school price.

Public and Private Prices Across Texas

Sam Houston State lists $320.25 per credit for Texas residents and $748.25 for nonresidents in its Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 rates, with mandatory fees added each semester. A resident therefore pays the lowest per-credit price on this list. UT San Antonio charges $525 per credit to everyone and notes that material and lab fees are extra.

The private schools price higher. Hallmark charges $595 per credit, Our Lady of the Lake $1,031 and University of Dallas $1,300. Strayer bills by the course at $2,540, with a $65 technology fee each term and a $100 resource kit per course.

Two-year colleges sit at the other end. Texas State Technical College estimates $16,200 for its whole associate degree.

Choosing Among the Five Texas Master's Programs

The master's programs look alike on a price table and differ in how you move through them. Hallmark's M.S. runs 36 credits in 8-week terms with six starts a year and finishes in 12 months. Courses include Cyberlaw, Regulations and Compliance, Secure Software Design and Forensics and Network Intrusion, and it ends with a capstone project.

Sam Houston State takes 30 credits with fall, spring and summer starts. You can write a thesis or finish with a directed master's project, and you pick a Cybersecurity track or an Artificial Intelligence track.

Strayer is 45 quarter credit hours taken one 11-week course at a time, with no scheduled log-in hours.

Who Can Apply Without a Technical Degree

Admission rules separate these programs more than the courses do. University of Dallas accepts a bachelor's in any field from a regionally accredited college and requires no GMAT or GRE. Our Lady of the Lake asks for a 3.0 GPA, a resume and transcripts, and it may require foundation courses (CISS 6101, 6102, 6201 and 6202) if you lack an IT-related degree or significant industry experience.

Hallmark waives extra requirements for its own bachelor's graduates with at least a C average. Other applicants need a technology degree plus two years of experience, or three years of experience without one, or an intermediate technology certification.

Sam Houston State prefers a 3.0 GPA and asks for a resume and two letters of recommendation.

Starting With an Associate Degree in Texas

Two public two-year schools offer fully online associate degrees. Central Texas College in Killeen offers a 60-credit A.A.S. with courses in Firewalls and Network Security Design, Network Defense and Countermeasures and Security Assessment and Auditing, plus a 3-credit internship course. Its 45-credit Level II certificate stacks toward the degree.

Texas State Technical College takes about 20 months. It uses performance-based education so you can move at your own pace, and it lists labs in scripting, auditing and compliance. It promises a job offer within six months of graduation or a tuition refund, so read the terms before counting on it.
