Missouri

Studying Cybersecurity Online in Missouri

Missouri's options split cleanly. Four programs come from public universities: Northwest Missouri State, Missouri State, and two at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Park University and Washington University in St. Louis are private nonprofits, and they sit at opposite ends of the price range. Nothing here is a for-profit school. For options beyond the state, see our best online cybersecurity degrees.

Method

How We Chose These Programs

We include every online cybersecurity program based at a Missouri school that we could verify on the school's own pages, then order each degree level with our published methodology. Prices, credits, formats and admissions rules come from those pages, checked in October 2026. You can read the full method on the methodology page.

Park is a Missouri option for anyone who wants a campus-backed school but needs to study from home. The 120-credit degree runs online or on campus with online courses, and project-based assignments replace some exams. The catch is residency: at least 30 credits must come from Park, 15 of them in the major core, so heavy transfer students should check the math first.

Springfield offers a Missouri master's with a clear budget: an estimated $17,500 for all 30 credit hours, fees included. Take two classes each semester plus one in summer and you finish in two years. Hands-on labs cover securing and defending systems. The estimate leaves out foundation courses and materials, and online coursework must be completed within the United States, so overseas travel is a problem.

Pick the Right Missouri Program for Your Starting Point

If you hold an associate degree, Northwest Missouri State can apply up to 90 transfer credits toward its 120-credit bachelor's, and admission asks for a 2.0 GPA. Courses run 7 weeks with multiple start dates each year.

Park University fits someone who wants certification practice built in. Its page lists labs aligned with the Cisco CyberOps Associate certification and preparation for Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker and CISSP topics.

If you already work in IT, the master's programs make more sense. UMSL's master's prefers a bachelor's in cybersecurity, computer science or information systems, and its Information Systems emphasis asks for a 3.0 GPA.

Compare Missouri Tuition Before You Apply

Missouri's prices vary more than its program count suggests. Northwest Missouri State charges $368 per credit, the same for in-state and out-of-state students, which works out to $44,160 for 120 credits. Its page also lists a $30 per-course fee, so ask what is included.

UMSL's bachelor's charges residents $550 per credit in the College of Arts and Sciences or $620 in the business college. Non-residents pay $1,370 or $1,440.

At the master's level, Missouri State lists $17,500 for all 30 credits, with foundation courses and materials extra. UMSL's master's charges residents $697 or $872 per credit by college. Washington University lists $2,450 per unit, or $73,500 across 30 units.

Check Residency, Location and Admissions Rules

Some Missouri programs price residents and outsiders differently. UMSL's non-resident rates run more than double its resident rates, while Northwest Missouri State charges one rate to everyone. If you live outside Missouri, that difference decides which school costs less.

Missouri State requires that online coursework be completed within the United States, so overseas travel or deployment could be a problem. Its page also says the GMAT and GRE requirement is temporarily suspended.

UMSL's master's lists the GRE as not required. Look at the capstone too: it ends in a Cybersecurity Capstone, though a master's thesis may replace it if you want a research route.

Match the Curriculum to the Job You Want

The course lists point to different careers. Northwest Missouri State names Introduction to Cybersecurity, Secure System Administration and Digital Forensics, which suits hands-on administrator and investigator roles.

UMSL's master's lists Cyber Threats and Defense, Cryptography for Computer Security, Advanced Information Security, Computer Forensics and Software Assurance, which leans technical.

Washington University goes the other way. Its courses include Cybersecurity Risk and Governance of Third-Party Ecosystems, Managerial AI in Cybersecurity and Incident Response and Business Continuity, aimed at people who will lead security teams. A bridge course covers students with little background, and a 15-unit certificate can transfer into the degree at any time.
