Verdict
Our Verdict on the M.A.
Hilbert College's online M.A. in Cybersecurity Administration is a management degree, not a technical one. Its courses center on risk, policy, incident response and financial crimes, and you move through them with the same cohort of classmates.
At $830 per credit and $29,880 in tuition, with no GRE and no minimum GPA, it's a strong fit for IT workers heading toward leadership. It's a poor fit if you want to learn to attack and defend systems hands-on.
Hilbert College is a private nonprofit college in Hamburg, New York. Its online M.A. in Cybersecurity Administration is a 36-credit program delivered fully online, and Hilbert says students can finish in as few as 16 months.
The word administration in the title is deliberate. The curriculum is about running a security program: assessing risk, writing policy, managing an incident and understanding how fraud crosses into cybercrime. Hilbert also offers a B.S. in Cybersecurity, which is the place to start if you haven't finished a bachelor's degree yet.
Cost
How Much It Costs at $830 a Credit
Tuition is $830 per credit for 36 credits, which Hilbert states as $29,880 in total. Fees are separate: a $369 course resource fee per course, a $50 online comprehensive fee per semester, a $231 one-time orientation fee and a $315 one-time graduation fee.
The per-course fee adds up, so ask for a full estimate that includes it. The tuition figure alone doesn't show what you'll actually pay by the end.
36 credits at $830 a credit comes to $29,880 in tuition, before fees.

Fit
Who Should Apply, and Who Should Not
Who It Fits
- IT professionals moving into management. Hilbert describes the program as a way to advance an IT career or transition into cybersecurity leadership.
- People with a lower undergraduate GPA. Hilbert has no GPA requirement, although applicants below 3.0 are encouraged to submit two academic letters of recommendation.
- Students who learn better with peers. The cohort model keeps you with the same classmates, which builds a small network you can lean on.
- Anyone interested in fraud or compliance. Financial Crimes and Cybersecurity is a course you rarely see in this field.
Who Should Skip It
- Students who want deep technical labs, penetration testing or forensics. The course list is about policy and management.
- Anyone who wants to start in a summer term. Graduate programs start every fall and spring only.
- Applicants who want named certification prep built into the courses.
Curriculum
What You Will Study
Four named courses show the direction. Risk Management for Cybersecurity teaches you to identify and rank threats against the business. Cybersecurity Programs and Policies covers how an organization writes, adopts and enforces its security rules. Cyber Incident Response: Management, Response, Mitigation and Recovery treats a breach as a management problem, with decisions about who does what and when.
Financial Crimes and Cybersecurity is the unusual one. It connects fraud and money-related offenses to the digital tools used to commit them, which is useful for careers in banking, compliance or investigations.
The program ends with MACA 654 Capstone Experience, worth 3 credits. Ask whether the capstone is built around a project from your own workplace, since that's the easiest way to turn coursework into something you can show a hiring manager.

Online
The Online Format
The program is fully online and uses a cohort model. You share courses with the same group of classmates from start to finish, and graduate cohorts begin every fall and spring. Hilbert says you can finish in as few as 16 months.
The cohort approach has a trade-off. You get built-in accountability and familiar faces, but you have less freedom to skip a term or retake a course on your own timeline. If your work schedule changes often, ask how the school handles a student who needs to pause.
Confirm whether sessions are live before you commit.

Credentials
Accreditation and Where It Leads
The degree is a master's in administration, so its credential is the degree itself. If you want an industry certification, plan to study for it separately and ask the program whether any courses align. Hilbert is a nonprofit college, and the degree itself is the main credential.
The admission requirements are light. There's no GRE or MAT requirement, though you may submit scores for extra consideration, and applicants write a statement of purpose.

Trade-Offs
Drawbacks to Weigh
- Few technical courses, so hands-on skills will have to come from your job or separate training.
- Fees add noticeably to the $29,880 tuition, especially the $369 resource fee charged for each course.
- Only two start terms a year, and the cohort model limits flexibility.
- Certification study is on your own time, since no certification prep is built in.
